“ Not only take power from the network, but also feed it back in ”
"Vehicle-to-grid" denominates a concept where electric and hybrid vehicles not only consume power from the power system, but also feed power back into the system. This becomes particularly interesting, when the power is fed into the system during times of high load in the system. Electric vehicles thus function as decentralized power storage and help to buffer peak load in the power system. At the same time, the vehicles can fill up on power when there is low load in the power system and, subsequently, power prices are low.
This concept can be relevant for utility companies as they will not have to build expensive power stations only for covering peak load. It might be an interesting approach for network operators to have vehicles function as storage or transport media for renewable energies.
energynautics works, in particular with developing interfaces between power systems and vehicles. Our vision is, in particular, to include vehicles into Virtual Power Plants.
